El nostre programa d'aquesta setmana comença amb la gran Big Band de Woody Herman del 48 i on apareix el gran saxofonista Gene Ammons que serà l'artista convidat del nostre programa d'avui. Seguirem amb ell i amb Sony Stitt amb enregistraments del 1951 per continuar amb una balada de mitjans del 50 protagonitzada per ell mateix i enregistrada al 1961. Seguirem amb la estrena del àlbum del bateria Gonzalo del Val The music of Steve Swallow, i l'ultim treball del Macel·li Bayer Les Narrations. Seguirem repassant l'ultim treball de la cantant Cecile McLorin , Woman Child i acabarem amb el primer àlbum que va enregistrar al 2005 el jove trompetista Christian Scott, Rewind That.

Hijo de Albert Ammons, famoso pianista de Chicago, Eugene Ammons, fue educado desde pequeño por el amor a la música. Estudió en el Instituto Dusable de Chicago con una beca otorgada por la fundación "Captain Walter Dyett".
Ya a los dieciocho años, Gene Ammons, estaba preparado para iniciar su carrera musical de la mano del director de orquesta, King Kolax. Ese paso fue el trampolín para ingresar en la banda del cantante, Billy Eckstine, un autentico vivero para los músicos del bebop, estilo emergente por aquélla época. Influenciado por los dos grandes saxofonistas del momento: Lester Young y Coleman Hawkins. Gene Ammons, sustituyó en 1949 a Stan Getz, en la orquesta del maestro, Woody Herman, lo que contribuyó notablemente, a que la fama de la orquesta le rozara a el.
En 1950, Ammons, formó un grupo con el también saxofonista, Sonny Stitt, contribuyendo a lanzar la moda del "tenor duro". Justo cuando comenzaba a recoger los frutos de su nuevo estilo de tocar, Ammons, fue encarcelado por consumo de drogas durante dos años (1958-1960) y poco después, una segunda condena de siete años (1962-1969), le separó definitivamente de la música. Deteriorado físicamente por el periodo carcelario y el consumo de heroína, una fatal neumonía acabó con su vida en 1974.
