Max Roach ha estat per l'historia del jazz una de les principals icones de la bateria moderna. Tecnic extraordinari, dotad especialment d'un cop excepcionalment transparent, va ser sempre un music absolutament llegible i definit.
Max Roach va ser el gran mestre del "drumming" poliritmic, estil que ell mateix va introduir dins del mon del Jazz.
Acompanyant inigualable gracies entre d'altres coses al seu toc inconfundible amb els plats de la batería i la seva ben entesa llibertat amb els tambors, Roach va lliderar tambe les seves propies formacions de manera impecable sempre rodejat dels millors musics del moment. Prodigiosament musicals , els solos de Roach sorprenen per la facilitat en la que es sobreposen les figures rítmiques que creava tan en l'acompanyament com amb els seus solos plens de frases rítmiques independents, on van començar a conviure amb la bateria unes coloracions timbriques i sonores realment excepcionals. Max Roach va ser un dels referents principals per musics com Philly Jo Jones, Elvin Jones o Toni Williams entre d'altres, els quals van expandir i ampliar part de les essencials aportacions de Max Roach al llarg de l'historia del Jazz. Amb Parker al 1945, Monk al 1952, Clifford Brown al 1954 o Ellington al 1963 entre d'altres enregistraments com a lider , reviurem al nostre programa moments històrics de una de les figures mes grans i mes importants de la Historia del Jazz, el genial Max Roach.
